trying to figure out what to feed these severums. thanks for any help.

quality cichlid pellet, I am an aqueon fan but plenty others, NLS, comes to mind, I will let other chime in on what they use. main point is a quality cichlid pellet, this should be the main day and day out food, any thing else is a treat.

ok thanks, i heard the Severums needs like Spinach and stuff though, will that have enough in it?

quality pellet, has all they need. I am not saying do not feed them that, saying its a treat, and good for them, but a quality pellet should be main diet. I personally treat my fish to super freeze dried krill, soaked in Boyds once a week, on Fridays as water change is Saturday and its a messy high protein food. protein=ammonia=nitrite=nitrate. feed a high protein food need to do water changes sooner. so the treat they love is done before water changes, they get the food they need the rest of the week. and helps me maintain water quality.

If you're really worried about your fish getting the necessary vegetation, try to find a good pellet that is high in plant matter. Most African cichlid pellets have higher amounts of plant matter, same goes with pellets designed for algae eaters.

I used to feed my geo a mixture of hikari pellets (before I could afford NLS) both carnivorous and herbivorous ones and he done pretty well on them.

Mixing meaty type pellets with planty type pellets will make any omnivorous fish happy and healthy. :)

nls sells an awesome veggie pellet called Algaemax. Omega One's veggie wafer is also pretty good stuff.
just compare ingredients and you'll find good stuff.

agreed a good quality pellet is staple, and frozen foods 1-2X a week, but after a day of no feeding, I will take a few Romaine leaves or Zucchini quartered length-wise and rubberband them to a small rock and sink it to the bottom. Not all cichlids will eat it, but many go crazy for it. Other leafy greens work equally well, I just always have an abundance of Romaine. My daily staple is Hikari Bio-Gold+, Gold, Tetra Pro/Color flake/pellets. I also have Emerald Entrée which is a frozen cubed vegtable based food w/ spirulina, algae, and various animal proteins

Sorry for taking this off topic (I seem to do that a lot) but is that the brand name or the name the brand gave the product? I might see if I can find it coz it sounds like something my goldfish would LOVE! :)
