What are your other hobbies

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I like musical instruments. I have an African tongue drum, bowed psaltery and hammered dulcimer and a musical saw. I would like a glass armonica and a theramin to add to my collection.

I do have more traditional instruments. Besides my husband's family heirloom piano in the living room, I have a piano and a harp. 1631932474679.png

I enjoy playing the piano. Galloping comedian, Canon, and 5th symphony are my favs. I also play the drums. A new hobby of mine is insects. I have a small Ghost Mantis, and I have a different insect coming soon. I have 4 different tanks that can hold insects. They are so cute and fun to watch. Unfortunately, he is about 2cm long. He is also a very elderly ghost mantis.

. . . I would like a glass armonica and a theramin to add to my collection. . . .

A theramin is pretty fun for a while. I've played with a homemade one a bit, but quickly got bored.
Now the harp is to die for. I'd love to own one but I hate to tune all day.
I played the jazz bass in school. only 4 strings. Easy to tune ;)
The Upright bull fiddle, not electric.

Our jazz group went to the state competition & did Bourree for Bach from a folio titled The Baroque goes Bop.
We came in 7th. ;(

Hey! This thread was dead almost 5 years, and things do change.

I used to read a lot of fiction. I quit doing that. I used to have 1500 books, but half are gone now. Most just donated.

I bought a smaller car to work on in the garage, and put the big ones outdoors.

I built a much bigger awning to work under. The city doesn’t want me to build a permanent canopy or carport big enough, so I didn’t. My illegal awning is twice as big, and the space is mine, so unless they make me take it down, work continues outdoors.

I started building and riding bicycles again, which means I bought a bunch of bicycle tools. (My grand kids riding.)

I am shooting much less since covid, so I have not been working on guns. In fact I had too many and could not get one out of the safe without removing ten.

I sold off 5 that were my least favorites. Several more I never shoot will get sold off for funds to buy car parts and more guitars. I haven’t been skating regularly in 6 years. I’ve been selling off my custom skate gear and longboards.

I started playing guitar again, but now electrics (!) and that cash has gone into collecting them. I haven’t played daily for 50 years, but I do now.

I’ve managed to collect a dozen more guitars. Some are to play, some to repair, some just as collectibles, some for my grandkids. I spent a lot of time fixing some of the old ones from the 60s and 70s.

I just made a tiny string tree for a guitar I have created from parts and pieces.

It replaces the cheap tree on it now.

I have done a ton of hobby welding. I cut this car chassis in half and built it up as you see. The frame rails were from my dad’s 1970s Craftsman tractor.

Oh yeah, I’ve been buying and building fixing old amplifiers and some new effects.

That old Silvertone got a new baffle board and cloth. Lots of little attentions inside.

The mighty Line6 needed a fuse, switch, and tight speaker terminals that didn’t flop about.

I built this amp from bits I had kicking around. I bought a pine board, and the mint badges, but most everything else I’d hoarded away.

I built a welded steel pedalboard. Heavy and doesn't move when you work the wah-wah. It’s there under the steel guitar.

That classic ‘57 Danelectro (1998 reproduction) came from a pawn shop with a bent bridge. They all bent. Aftermarket bridges are available, but I made my own aluminum saddle (ditched the buzzy rosewood saddle) and filed it by hand to set the intonation.

This fixes the chronic bent bridge issue 100% and gives a more metal sound.

This is similar to my mods to my ‘65 Silvertone, that had a missing bridge.
