Im finally selling my foot long flowerhorn and going to have an empty 75 gallon. I want to do a community as i havent had one in 4 years. Ive had my eyes on 3 small very nice green severums at work. I want to mix them with a 5-7 tiger barbs. 3-5 clown loaches, and a red tail shark. I know if the severums decide to pair off this will not work but other wise I think I got a good chance at success. Also may add a royal pleco to the mix. what are your thoughts?

I'd go with something other than the tiger barbs. They are pretty nasty fin-nippers. 5-7 male rainbows of different types would be lots of color. You could do one type if you wanted.

You'll get told that the loaches and red tail shark need more space, but they grow so slowly that you have plenty of time to get a larger tank for them. I'd go with 5 loaches for sure.

Even if the severum pair off, the dimensions of the 75 give enough room for the 3rd one to get out of the way. They aren't as obnoxious as a lot of cichlids that seek and destroy any other in their tank.

Thanks I was iffy on the tiger barbs too. I owned a red tail for 5 years and he only got 5", you may be thinking of a black shark which reaches 2'.

yeah red tail black sharks arent huge---
ive got one thats almost 6" hes perfectly peacefull just grazes on algae.
but yes i think you should get different colours of rainbows
also try to get a gold severum too, so you have lots of colours

A royal plec. would be cool, but larger plecos apparently poop alot...

change in plans I decided to buy back my 5-6" albino african frog. So she will be thrown in the mix. This sort of does away with the loaches as they will become food. I dont care if she picks off a few tiger barbs every now and then. Im going to try the tigers if they are too nippy I will try the rainbows. Any suggestions on some bottom feeders for the tank. already have a true upside down catfish picked out.
