Hi All,

can anyone let me know what type of arowana it is?
LFS sold to my friend at 2inch, as a green arowana.
I suspect it to be some other type.

Picture quality is poor due to scratches in tank.
Currently in his 55gallon.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly there are more knowledeable Arowana ID members on the forum, e.g. S stratos , who could inform better, but my first impression was a green or somewhat possibly an RTG but it's not so easy esp. when they're that small, and also depends on the lighting used (which in this case appears to be yellow rather white). After it starts growing more and more it should be easier to tell, esp. if under a white light, then can see it's 'true' colors better.

My other thinking is that while sure LFS might misidentify fish, I certainly don't see them purposely lying about it being a green, which should be reflected in the more affordable pricing it likely came with. Personally until it got bigger I would for now assume it's a green as sold.

In any case it's a cute lil' guy or gal, I hope someone can give you/friend a more conclusive answer.

Thank you islandguy11....I for sure agree with your point....

Well again I can't say for sure, and Dee Eng knows quite a bit about Aros from what I've seen, so now I'm also a bit confused lol. In fact I wondered if it might be Jardini but the photos aren't clear enough to see accurately how many levels of scales it has -- Jardini should have 7 levels of scales counting from the bottom to the top, Asian Aros will have 5 levels (though very top scales are usually counted as 6th level, esp. with quality Gold Xbacks).

Also I was thinking that it should have a bit more black around the fins, but maybe that comes out when it's older, again I think it's hard to tell 100% for sure when so young. See if you can get a clearer photo or two so we can count the scales more easily.

Hahaha, now that I scrutinized the pics you might right. 2” really hard to say tbh.
Hi...I am no expert and I'm sure I may be wrong....but what made me tell that was, I have seen another fish which they said to me was jardini of same size and it looked little different. Other than I have no idea about it.
