calling native experts!!!
caught this today.. been wanting to have a native species for some time now. I think its a small mouth? color is kind of golden greenish, no spots its weird i thought theyre black greenish and have some broken stripes in the mid body?.. maybe just stressed?

anyway, i hope he pulls thru. a lil wound on the right lips, hes on my 55 gal convict fry growout tank. hes about 6inches. Any input on general care, habitat, feeding would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! :D

i tried googling all i found out was about fishing for them! :irked:

Yep that is 100% smallmouth!

Wow I didnt know they were found in California though!

Care shouldne be too hard. They can tolerate/need cooler temps then LMB. A good current, while not needed would be nice as they are naturally a stream/river fish. They LOVE crawfish so you could feed them and of course feeder. I dont suspect your convict fry will last long.

Sweet Fish man!!!

Thats Awesome!! I love my smallie. He's beautiful.

ive seen lots of smallies like that, it all depends where they come from in the lake/river. most bass that i catch in a river look like that, if they are from the lake, they usually have more prominent stripes. giv it some time, it might change on ya!

yeah ive seen him with this stripes and its getting a lil darker now!!!
my, i love this accidental fish lol! hes like a dog never shys out on me. it will eat in my hand too!!! :headbang2
