Im looking at a ray right now, and i have a river rock bottom. Is it ok to just have an empty bottom with rays, or do i have to have sand?
What bottom to use?

if the river rock is all smooth and rounded, you might be able to just leave the rock in the bottom.
Rays like to bury themselves and search for food in the sand. Im sure they prefer sand over bare bottom but definately not river rock. Even if the river rock is smooth, it looks extremely uncomfortable.
I have river rock over some plumbing. My rays like to use it as a ramp, but they prefer to lay on the sand. They will dig for food in the rocks too, I watched my male ray move some rather large rocks last night digging for food.
But yeah, rocks probably aren't the most ideal, but I've seen pictures of it before.
