I go on home depot and lowes website and cant find pool filter sand. All the local pool supply stores only have silica sand. Im gonna go on a sand hunt and just go to a couple of hd's and lowes stores. My question is what brand of non-silica pool filter sand do you guys use?? I dont wanna use play sand and i dont wanna kick out the dough for estes( 5 $$ a bag shiiiiiiit I paid 75 dollars for my 75 gallon screw that) ...........btw Im gonna be housing 2 green terrors, Dont know if it makes a difference.

And what is wrong with silica sand?

Also, just to save you some time, you will never find pool filter sand that is not silica sand. The reason is it does not dissolve or break down in pool chemicals.

by the way, if $5 per bag of sand is way out of your budget, you are in for a big surprise when you find the specialty stuff. If you live near a lake or beach, you might want to consider the free stuff.

Ummmmm OK chompers. I think anyone on here with a brain would rather spend 5$$ for a 50 pound bag of either play sand or Pool filter sand instead of 5$$ for a 5 pound bag of estes sand. Stop being a smartass. Its not the first time, in threads that I have started, that you come at me like that......... That comment is gonna cost you 5 dollars chompers...:D

That you did not mention. You stated that you didn't want to pay $5 for a bag of sand.

AHH...it is clear now. A budget is the dollar amount that you set aside for something. It is the max amount you want to spend. I did not say it to mean that you are broke. I know better than. Twice you have said that you don't want to throw money at it because you only paid $75 for it. And there is nothing wrong with getting something for free.

Honestly I was trying to be helpful. I think you are pre-judging my words before you read them.

Ok. my apologies. no beef, i just noticed i worded it wrong so i see the lil confusion:screwy:......but ur still a smartass :D

I've found most pool filter sand is bagged by regional distributors, so brand names are going to differ by region. It's all basically the same sand. Good stuff. I now have it in 3 of my tanks. And yes, pool filter sand is silica sand.

I called all the local pool supply stores, went to lowes and homedepot and they all say that there pool filter sand is more jaged edged than rounded and although Im not housing rays I figure it would affect green terrors when they dig in it.

Well after searching and searching i finally found some pool filter sand at a lfs that I found today in long island, 50lbs for 13.99 . Took some pics so others like me have can at least see a picture so they can reference it.
