Danner has been suggested. It's time for me to choose a pump for my tank and I need some suggestions for descent brands for me to research. If there is already a thread or sticky I have missed, please direct me to it so I can get on with this. I just don't want to end up buying something that is well known to be no good.

I only use a pump for water changes but "Quiet One" pumps have worked well for me.

What sort of flow are you looking for? Eheim makes the best submersible pumps, IMO, but they don't make high flow pumps. Sicce is very good and kinda picks up where Eheim leaves off. Anything bigger than that, and Iwaki takes the cake.

It depends on what your flow rate requirements are. Some brands are better in certain applications than others.

I like my magdrive. Not the best on power, however for a mag 9.5 I don't mind much... but would I want to be running a pair of mag 24's on a monster tank? Probably not.

I use Mag Drives, and Laguna.
The Mags are powerful (a 1200 would work for what you seem to want), but they are a bit noisy (hum, and vibration) use considerable power (as mudbutt said), but are easy to get replacement parts for. a 1200 gph below

I use the 2000+gph Lagunas and find them to work well, and are much quieter than the Mags. The pond versions (the ones I use) also come with large cage which helps prevent gravel and other objects from entering the pump, I like this, but it takes up space. A 12" width in the sump, is about the narrowest required to use the caged version. Laguna in cage, below

I had a mag 24 on my 300 gal and it's a good pump but it's kind of loud and it's a power hog. Barely needed to heat the tank because it puts off so much heat. I changed it out for a couple marineland utility pumps.

I have a mag 7 as well that I've used for years as a top up pump connected to a ATO. You can't really go wrong with these pumps because you can't kill them.

BUT

Eheim IMO is the best pump on the market.

I recently took the plunge with reeflo dart/snapper pumps for external pumps and so far they're the best I've ever had. Quiet and super efficient.

They're quiet and efficient.
