So I got a new 55 gallon today. I've got a 70 gallon and a 30 gallon I've been using but the 30 gallons filter died so we upgraded instead, it's been needed the 30 gallon fish are constantly fighting. I want to put oh 10-ish fish in it or like 2-4 bigger fish like Jack Dempsys or Green Terrors (and I am planning on selling or giving away the fish in the 30) . now my question is what cichlid type fish would you put in a 55 gallon? Pics of your own that you have or just names I can look up would be great.

A 55 gallon is not large enough to house 4 medium to large cichlids. You could get several of the smallest cichlids. You could also get a 6"-8" fish with a few schooling fish or a single pair of medium-sized cichlids. Getting smaller cichlids like dwarf species is the only way you're going to get 10 fish in a 55. Jack Dempseys and Green Terrors would not work with three other fish of the same size living in that size tank. You would have aggression issues and without good filtration you would run into water quality problems too.

ya I wasn't planning on like 10 jack dempseys or something but more like 1-2 jack dempseys OR 1-4 green terrors or get like 10 smaller cichlids I've got some dwarfed breeds in my 30 right now. My wife wants just fish from lake victoria she's got a thing for them.

Definitely not 3 or more Green Terrors in a 55. You could have a pair of JD for a while but I think a 75 would do a pair better for life. Others may disagree and say that an adult pair of JD will be fine for life in a 55. I respect that thought and have seen it done. Personally, I think something a bit larger is better for long-term.

I agree, the main issue is the width of the 55. I've seen some big JDs and GTs.

What you want out of your 55 sounds like the stock list for a 125g at least. If you want to go the SA/CA route you'll be stuck with dwarf species or a pair of medium cichlids like Salvinis.

If you want to go the african route check out this link for a good guide to start from.
