I got a glass table top 4'x6' and 1/2" thick. Can I use it for a plywood tank. I plan to take it to a glass shop and cut it down to 2.5'x6' to build a plywood tank 6' L x 3' D x 3' H. I will really appreciate with any comments or suggestions. Thanks,

I would be careful trying to cut it down. It may be made of tempered glass. If so, it cannot be cut. If it is plate glass, go for it.

I am using some 3/8 inch glass shelving for my ply and drylok tank, not the large glass on the tank, that I used from a broken 30 gallon. I think it is 15x18 inches and its going on the side.

Hello; Two thoughts: 1) look over the glass from a lot of angles and with light in various positions to see if the glass is scratched and how much. 2) If 30 inches is the safe height and the framing above the glass allows 36 inches of water depth, then the water pressure will be six inches too much at the bottom of the glass. Not sure if this is what you intrnded to do.
As others have said, do not try to cut tempered glass. I tried it once which resulted in explosive shattering. Wear safety stuff if you are not sure of the type of glass. The tempered glass that I have seen has a label printed on it usually in a corner. Good luck.

If it's from a table, I'd bet a heck of a lot that it's tempered glass. That being said, not all tempered has a label. If you're going to cut it yourself, and figure it's not tempered, I'd suggest researching how to tell the two apart. If you take it somewhere to have it cut, they should be able to tell you whether it is or not. 1/2" thick is safe for the 30" you want, but that's 30" from the top of the water to the bottom of the glass. If you want 36" of water, the glass would need to be from the surface down with the other 6" extending below the glass.
