I bought this mat of java fern it's probably about 4" x 7". I was curious if there is a way I can simply cut the roots apart in order to plant them throughout my tank. I understand that if I planted the whole mat it would eventually propagate across my tank but that seems messy and unorganized to me.
What can I do with this Java fern mat?

Thanks! I just got it all planted! I have to say, there was a lot more there once it was broken up a bit.
Here's a photo. Sorry about the murkiness, I knocked a bit of substrate up during the process but I think it looks alright. It will be much better when I move the small fish and get those pieces of driftwood fully waterlogged.
