A question for some of you more experianced folks out there. I have a 8" Oscar and a 7" Jaguar in a 55 gallon tank. Right now the fighting and scirmishes are minimal. In time do I need to expect more problems between them, or will they tolerate each other since they have been together so long?

i'd say by the time the jag starts getting close to 1', that oscar will be gone. if not sooner

I would have to aggree. O's are not the big fierce fish that people seem to believe, Jags on the other hand can be nasty at about a foot...

Kinda what I expected to hear and was afraid of. Right now the Oscar is being the dominate one, I just wasn't sure for how long. Have been considering putting money back for another tank, even if it's another 55g to separate them.

not to mention you need a bigger tank

For your two fish to stand a chance, I think you need to be thinking of a 125g tank minimum which measures 6' x 18" x 22". Sorry but imo a 55 is too small for either fish by itself. It may not seem that way now if they're real small but it won't take long for them to put some mass on. Water quality will start be hard to keep up with along with space issues and fighting.

another 55 would be a waste if you plan on using it for either of those big fish. you could possibly get by with a breeder's 50 but really should be looking for atleast a 75

a 55gal would be a waste...i would go with a 90gal. you can always check on craigslist for good deals.

A 90 is the same footprint as a 75. We're talking about a Jag here...with an Oscar tankmate...and I'm sure he'll want a couple more fish too so I still think a 6' tank is necessary.
