I have a pair of angels(just got them), a pleco and a peacock eel in a tank with sand instead of gravel so vacuuming to clean the bottom is out of the question. I had two botia loaches that I sold last week and now my gravel is getting dirty on top. I'm thinking the loaches were keeping stuff from accumulating on the gravel...by eating it and swishing it around so the filter picked it up. I'm thinking about picking up a couple more botias, but since I didn't have them in with the angels, I am wondering if they are compatible? What about kuhli loaches? They interest me... which would be better for the purpose of helping to keep the sand cleaner- kuhli or botia loaches? Would the angels try to eat the kuhli if I went with them?

Or could I just go with a trio of bristlenose plecos (already have one, but would like some blue eyed ones) I guess what I'm asking is -- are these choices compatible with my angels? If they are, then I would have a choice as to what I want to go with....

Oh wow, can't believe no one helped you...I just seen this thread, otherwise I would've responded sooner :(

You can house them with other peaceful fish such as gouramis, mollies, tetras, plecos, corys, platies, & swordtails

& yes you can keep them with botia/clown loaches...but do keep in mind clown loaches get 8-14"

Kuhli loaches would also work. Both clown and kuhli loaches would help keep your sandy substrate clean. & no your angels wouldn't try to eat them because they are peaceful like them.

What about the peacock eel and kuhli loaches? I know I can keep the eel with botias, as I already have done that, although the eel seemed to stay hidden all the time when I had a pair of cichlids and the botias. He is out now with the angels.

What size tank are we talking about here has to be the first question.

I have sand substrates in all my tanks and have no problem vacuming/cleaning the sand, what type of sand do you have? Some like the black sand is very fine and does make a pain because it's so light however PFS or playsand is much heavier and very easy to vacume.

Having said that and with no other information available corys always work well with Angel fish. Provide some additional information about your set up and we can give you more specific infomation.
