I have a 48" long, 12" wide and 12" tall tank, it is 30 gallons. I know the water volume isn't large but it has a huge foot print for a 30 gallon tank.

I'm thinking maybe convicts because I have never keep them. But I'm open to about anything.

The tank is fully cycled I have guppies and cory catfish in there right now but I will be moving them all out before I add the cichlids.

Do you have a quarantine tank?
If not, I'd keep the guppies(etc) in it, so it is always cycled, and is the perfect tank to put new arrivals in for observation, and to get new fish used to your normal parameters, or as a refuge for the occasional fish, some other fish beats on, and needs a place to heal.

I do have a quarantine tank I put new fish into.

I set up a dirt tank a few weeks ago to move the guppies to so that was going to leave the few corys in this tank so wanted to find something to put in it and not take it down. Don't want the cycle to crash so holding off moving anyone until I know for sure.
