what canister filter for 40breeder ?

i currently only have 1 filter on my tank a hob (had to sell my fx5 that i got from my freind to put in my saving for a car)

now on monday i get paid and i want a canister filter i dont know what to get i want to overfilter but i cant spend a ton off money
(is buying a used filter bad ?)

the stock is currently
1 green terror
1 african butterfly fish
( getting a oscar or cuban or severum soon)

THIS TANK IS A GROWOUT !!!!!!!!
the final tank after they outgrow this is a 125gal ( the filter that i buy should be able to filter this to )
