I have several catfish in my 120 but the only ones that I see much when the lights are on are my shark catfish. The Sun, Synodontis ocellifer and the upside down catfish are always hiding. The Clown knives come out more than these guys. I added 2 Tiger shovelnose but my gar ate them. One night he also had my Cory in his jaws but he let go of the little guy and he is doing fine. All the catfish came with my tank.

maybe your lighting is too bright most of my cats remained active during the day and sun cats always hide when they get older
I keep the lights off in all of my catfish tanks. They are active a little during the day and right at dusk they go nuts. My planiceps never moved till it is pitch black in the room he is in. He will only move to eat an unlucky victim or piece of shrimp that lands right under his snout.
