I'm planning of getting a 240-360 gallon tank because i've been seeing all these really nice Pbass tanks and all these other monster fish and tanks and i'm kind of tired of SA and Africans. I wanted to get a few Pbass and maybe an arowana and maybe some onter things i could put in there but i was wondering what sized sump would i need to filter one of those large tanks? I was thinking of a 50 gallon sump? Would it be cheaper to build one or to buy one. If it would be cheaper to build one how do you make a sump? If not does anyone know a good place that has good deals on sumps? Thanks!

The cheapest thing would be to DIY the sump and use pot scrubbies for biomaterial

I built a wet dry/sump out of an old 55 gallon tank. My 265 was originally set up as a reef tank and i had 2 protein skimmers and pumps galore in there. Its a real nice size to work with.I just siliconed in plexiglass barriers and its held up fine, going on 10 years.

Here is my wet dry that is currently being used as a sump only. Its a direct copy of a Amiracle wetdry that i bought for $250. Water gets dumped in one chamber that houses my heaters and runs over a wall to the bio ball chamber that has drip tray and a cloth filter on top to catch most of the crud, water then goes thru a slot in the bottom to the other chamber that has the return pumps. I'm currently not using the filter to its potential as i have 2 hob bio wheels from my previouse 55 and have yet to add the bio balls, or cloth mechanical filter. My tank is in the wall in my basement and i have alot of room to do as i want but this filter will easilly fit under the tank. I had two overflows on the reef tank but am only running one now. Bio balls and second overflow will be put back soon.

Hope this helps, its really very simple.
