Hey MFK C.R.E.A.M , what cichla should I stock my 300gal 8'x2'x2.5' , looking for the ones with extreme color, and personality, also I want to put a couple tankmates in there with them , so if you guys could help there it would appreciated thanks:)

I haven't seen your name around lately but it's good to see another poster from Philly on here...I think you will have to look into the different species and types and decide which ones appeal to you the most.I have kept a few different kinds but it was the kelberi that really got me into them and I am almost exclusively into kels as they are the pbass for me....All of the pbass seem to eventually have nice colors and markings so it's pretty much up to you and what is available when you are ready to purchaes.

Orino's and kelberi are the smaller guys that could stay in that 300g for quite a while. All kinds of fish mix well. As long as they can hold their own and wont fit in their mouths.

If you want color you will be hard pressed to find a more colorful Cichla than an Orinocensis. However, the Borkopondo's I have are very unique and have great spangling. As for personality I was feeding my Cichlas last night and the Orinos will feed right from my hands... They also let me pet them... I have found that the Brokopondo's have a very timid personality and stay as far away from me as possible. My Ocellaris' are kind of in between... not stand offish, but won't let me feed them.

As for tank mates... they are pretty calm and nice to fish that wont fit in their mouth as long as they aren't hungry and have enough space. I am thinking of getting a couple Jags, they seem to get along well.

Hope that helps...
-Ryan
