I agree that for an average aquarium, saying it is a Texas cichlid might be adequate.
But if I was looking for a Texas cichlid, I would hope it was a pure Herichthys cyanoguttatus.
Just as if I was looking for a Les Paul guitar, I would expect a pure Gibson Les Paul.
Now if someone said I have a Les Paul, but it has some Sears parts and hardware, or the tuners were swapped out with Kingstons, then it would (to me) no longer be a Les Paul, but a mutt, and only worth maybe a 10th, of a Les Paul, if even that, even if it played OK.
Just as a Texas cichlid with scrambled up genes from a carpintus, or some other cichlid, would to me, be a mutt, and worthless, or useless for my purposes, even if it looked OK.
