I went to my lfs and I saw a 2 foot clam there I am curius what types of clams grow to about that size or larger and how long will that take.

Tridacna gigas can get to 1.3m (about 4.2 feet) but you cant buy them anymore as they are endagered. Tridacna derasa and Hippopus hippopus get to about 55cm or 2ish feet. Tridacna squamosa, Hippopus porcellanus and Tridacna maxima get to around 40cm or 1.3ish feet. They will take upwards of 20 years to get that big, depending on the clam.

I would recomend huge... Hundreds if not thousands of gallons for a larger specimen, as they are in part filter feeders, so they need a large volume of water to filter, in addition to the powerful lights required. I tend to buy Tridacna crocea clams, as they max size around 6 inches, but are just as beautiful, but a far more manageable size. That said, its unlikely to get that big, or live long enough in captivity to get to that size. I've only read one article reffering to growth of a Clam, and the guy had it for 20 years, baught it when it was 2-3" long, and it died at about 2 foot. The bigger and more stable the system the more likely it is to survive/grow/thrive.
