what color bulbs best for African cichlids?

What color/tempature light bulbs have you found to be best for showing off the color of African cichlids?

i use blue and white combination on each bulb. i have three tanks one is all dats and the other one is goldfish and some other fish. they look good. with regards to your cichlids i really don't know.

i just used the bulbs that came with my 55g kit and the fish look great. Just a regular white light is all.

i've seen the petshop put a few of those blue kenyii cichlids in a nano tank with ACTINIC lights...absolutely beautiful

How many does your fixture holds? If 3 the 1 blue 1 pink and 1 white. If two then 1 pink and 1 blue. If one 1 pink

i found that one actinic and a 10000 k bulb together look great! but if you're limited to one a 50/50 is always a good choice.

try to get a bulb with more of the blue/violet side of the spectrum. i found that blues and violets bring out the colors best on rift lake cichlids. my 2 cents

KENRC51 What is a PINK light? I do not recall seeing that option.
SHINDROME What is a 50/50? I know what actinic and 10000 k are.

Note: I have 2 -36"bulbs spaning the 6' tank. It seems bright enough, I moved up to 6000k and it did help the fish pop more, but I want even more, but I do not know if higher "k" will do it.

i think by pink light he means full spectrum pink ones like the ones sold by coralife

Pink light just sounds so wrong! Unless your room is the same color.
