I am in the process of setting up a new 55 gallon tank. I want it to have sand as the substrate. I have heard some good things about Estes Marine Sand. It is an enert? sand that is safe for fresh or salt use. I was wondering if anyone could post pictures of their tanks with black or white sand mixed with black tanks. I also have a nice piece of driftwood that will be going in along with some rocks. I don't want the tank to be to black so show me those tanks!

Thanks
max

black sand with a black background looks really nice.

Not sure about that particular brand of sand. Usually if it does anything it raises the kh (hardness) of the water. Although if your water is hard anyway it won't make a bit of difference. I love black on black. Here's a picture from a year ago of one of my Oscars with black on black.

on my 55g i have a black back and pool filter sand, off white natural looking color. in my 125g i have black on black. with the black on black i think its too dark. i plan on putting 100lb of pool filter sand on top of the black and have it mix, which looks really good.

I think black sand is without a doubt the most attractive. I wish I knew where to pick some up locally.

heres a pic of my tank. its pfs and its more of a white/tan color, something you would find at a lake. it'll have a black background soon.

the pfs:
leslies pool supply
pool filter sand enhance
stage 5 grade 20

its about 8 dollars for a 50 lb bag and two bags was nore than enough to fill my 84 gal.

black and grey mixed do very well and bring out the color of your fish more dark is always better or a lighter more real color of sand for that natural look always works its your choice gl

I liked black with my old dempseys and some africans I had, as it brought their blues out really nice but Ive since switched to a mix of 2 bags of tahitian moon sand and 4 bags of pool filter sand from Home depot.
