I need to put in a piece of cucumber for my Otos, but I can't find anything to weigh it down so that it sinks to the bottom! What can I use? I used one of those ordinary black clips, but it quickly rusted over so I promptly removed it.

Are there any household items that I could use ti weight down the cucumber? I don't really want to walk to my car and go all the way to the pet store just for a veggie clip...it's like a 20 minute walk to my car, and then a 20 minute drive to the pet store (I'm on a college campus).

Thanks!

a fork will do nicely

Poke the fork through the cucumber. Tie a piece of string or fishing line to the other end long enough to let the fork hang just above the bottom of your tank. This will allow you to retrieve the fork when they are done eating.

Stab it with a fork or butter knife let it drop to the bottom, retrieve by hand, repeat if necessary.

If you have a rubber band, but no fork.. then use the rubber band to attach the vege to a rock from the bottom of the tank ;)

Just spear the cucumber with a fork or blunt butter knife, or spoon. Drop it in and take it out when they're finished. Easy, You could do that or blanch (boil) the cuccumber. But I feel as if blanching takes away many nutrients.

Personally I use the fork method. I remember once I took a some pics of my fish but forgot the fork in the tank with no zuchini on it and everone razzed me about it. I got more fork comments and questions than for the fish lol.

I have stopped using rubber bands.

I had too many fish eat them.
