Hello MFK! Right now I have a 29G housing a 3.5 BGK some Gourami and a Pictus cat. Gonna be getting a 75G+ tank for the BGK in a few months and was thinking I might try my hand at salt water with my 29G. I was thinking maybe a clown fish pair. Im relatively new to fish keeping and have no clue about salt water. Anything I should be aware of or any stocking suggestions when my 29G frees up?

before u do start saltwater and your a newbie I highly suggest you do research and read up on everyting you need to know about starting, maintaining, and keeping which ever live stock you decide to keep. In salt water you have a set of whole new rules than freshwater fish keeping!

Ya I definitely am going to research the hell out of it. Wont be starting for a few months like I said but I was just wondering what I could put in there once its all set up.

gobies
blenies
pair of clowns (other then maroons, too agro imo for that size tank)
chromis
some wrasse
some smaller hawks
dwarf angels
dottybakcs
jawfish
various different crustaceans

This is what could potentially fit, not not all of these are going to be compatible with others.

Yes. Freshwater bacteria will not survive the change to saltwater.

If you dont want to keep corals, dwarf angles like the cherub or flame are very colorful, but you can only keep one in a small tank.

Dotty backs have good coloration as well, along with the blue spotted jawfish, and some wrasse.

LOVE the blue spotted jawfish but hes 130$ on liveaquaria. is that a normal price for those guys?

if your going with the salt water tank i would start of with a fish only tank because saltwater tanks can be unforgiving when it comes to corals and such

I think so. My LFS had one for sale that was more then what liveaquaria was wanting.

And as far as the last post about corals, I dove headfirst into a reef tank, and I havent lost a coral yet. Just know what it is your buying, what it needs, and if you can commit to it. If someone is just starting out, softies and LPS are very easy.
