i want to just put leaves in that wont effect the water.dried leaves of like a avacado tree or something.i know they will rot i will just add more as i go?? i just want a diff look, i dont have to do it just a thought.

Beware of rotting leaves! My father had a koi growout pond that had leaves in the bottom (from nearby poplar farm). When he disturbed the leaves they released a gas that smelt like sewage and killed about 99% of the 2000 koi in the pond within 30 minutes.

sry to hear about that.but good to know.i know the smell its pretty bad.well i guess im stuck using fake leaves.hope i can find one i like.(not likely)

I use dryed oak leaves and the rotting aint that bad -they just disapear leaving the (ehm) stems (?). And that prosess takes a coupple of months. I collect a bag each fall and that keeps me covered the hole year.

One side effeckt is that they might make the wather brownish and they lower the Ph to around 6.3 -6.5
