While in Acapulco my wife took a water taxi to Isla Roqueta and an old man on the boat was eating this thing. My wife was staring at it trying to figure out what it was when he offered her some. I'm glad to say she accepted - She said that she knew I would have wanted her to. :) (I didn't get there until a couple days later)

The whole thing was drenched with lime juice and salt. The guy broke her off a "branch" and then peeled back the brown outer covering, you eat the inside. The inside was soft, she could only compare it to a raw oyster in flavor. The "heads" looked like a beak, they said it opened and closed.

I'm thinking some kind of stalked barnacle, but I really don't know what she ate...

She really is a good sport. I drag her into some strange places and she loves every minute! This is a picture from about 240 meters underground in the Grutas de Juxtlahuaca (super-cool place, I'll start a thread later).
