My gold opaline gourami's left fin is slightly damaged at the end. I'm not sure, but I don't think it's from fin rot. What should I do about this? He is no swimming perfectly. I started by doing a water change.

With him I have 2 goldfish, a bichir, and 3 cories, if any of these fish do not tolerate any treatments well. Thanks if you can help, I don't want to lose my gourami.

you will not loose him. just add some aquarium salt to the tank for the nip to be healed faster. if you don't add salt it will just heal up a bit slower. don't worry about it.

I feel STRONGLY about always keeping a bottle of melafix on hand. It's cheap, non toxic (as long as its not od'd) all natural, heals certain diseases and fixes any damaged fins or tears in the skin. I'd use some of that or just do like the others have said too.:)

Thats probably the best treatment. If the fish is otherwise healthy and you keep the water conditions perfect a damaged fin will usually heal up fine on it's own.

Melafix or salt treatments can be usefull to prevent or treat a secondary infection (finrot or fungus), but they dont directly do anything to heal the fish. If you are getting finrot or similar problems then you need to look for the root cause, stressed fish, poor water quality or some other fish chewing on it usually.
