I have a 150 gallon and want to know what i should use to control the green and brown algae. My stock is a Oscar (12"), Dempsey(8") Firemouth (3") Sydonitis catfish(3") and a Fire eel(16"). Im worried about the fire eel because ive read that the plecos will maybe harm the fire eels slime coat. I don't know if this is true but would like some ideas for what you may have in with your eels or even stingrays. What do you think?

you can try flag tails, i would just get me a algae scraper. I don't believe in Cleaner Fish, They are fish that will eat algae, but they still need to be fed a good diet.

crudely put algae is a plant, if you reduce what it needs to grow on, nitrate, phospate and light it,ll slow down. check that your lighting isnt too strong, dont overfeed your fish use nitrate/phospate removing resins and/or a denitrifier/trickle filter using bacteria to digest nitrates.

I've never heard of plecos sucking on eels, they have been known to suck on ganoid-scaled fish, but spiny eels don't even have scales. My tire track eel and sailfin pleco have been together for close to a year with no problems and there are a ton of other members here who also keep plecos w/ their spiny eels. But as stated in the above posts, plecos and other algae-eating fish shouldn't be used as aquarium maintenance workers. The best solution is to either get a UV sterilizer or to just remove the algae manually.
