Hi...id like to convert my freshwater tank to marine. but i dont really know anything about the marine setup so im just trying to get a rough idea of the cost involved.

I have a Fluval Osaka 260..The lighting is T5 54W.. Can anyone tell me what i would need to convert..

i have a few quetions...

1. would the current lighting unit be suitable?
2. would i still use my external filter if i change to a marine setup?
3. sump? do you need it? or is my external filter doing that job?

What will i need to purchase to get the tank up and running?

1. protein skimmer? Hang on maybe, can you recommend a good one.
2. Korelia powerheads x2? anything else?

any info will be helpfull...thank you..

alright, the lights are fine, depending on what you want. Protien skimmers... they are important, espcially if you have a big tank, and/or a reef setup... powerheads are fine...

What size is the tank?

Are you planning on doing a fish only tank or a reef tank with corals? If you are thinking about going reef I actually made a post about total cost in my reef tank thread just yesterday. Here is a list of everything I had to buy and how much it all cost:

It really all depends on how big your tank is and how good you are at finding deals on stuff.

Hi...I went to my LFS and started to ask questions about converting my tank.. and i ended up buying a 30L nano/pico reef tank and im just wondering if anyone has any advice for me regarding setup..i've no experience at all with marine's so any tips would be appreciated. what corals are suitable for this size tank? i really want it to be colourful..not too interested in the fish side!! also how much do corals cost? i've no idea!!

what i have at the moment is..Tank,Niagra 250 Hang on filter & 18 Watt Solaris Compact Flourescent Lighting Unit..
Im not sure exactly what else i need...if there's anything missing please let me know.

1. Live Rock 2-3Kg
2. Live sand.
3. Water!

I have to buy a heater, not sure which to buy, 25w or 50w? Im thinking 25w.
Would i need a koralia nano powerhead? What do they actually do?

^ they provide air... for the fish... and makes surface movement...
