What ever it is,
to make it aquarium safe you'll need to bury it in a clear 2-part epoxy coating made for aquarium use, or one that states that it is safe for potable drinking water...

I would coat it like I mentioned in the prior post...
Metal that isn't stainless steel will oxidize under water and leech all kind of nasties into the fishes environment.
That Pony keg was sealed and coated at the factory to hold a beverage on the inside...
You can put it in a tote of water and watch and see what happens over a period of time...I bet it will be all corroded and nasty in no time at all...

Here ya go...read up and then see what you can find locally...it isn't cheap to ship because it is classified as a "Haz-Mat"...
