Well hers the story . I recently bought a 1997 pontiac trans sport mini va? from a neibor , used for 2400 . My family really needed a card we all can fit in . well its been about a month since i bought it . i have noticed from the start that the steering wheel was a little sluggish. About 3 days ago (WED) the wife ,my son and myself were driving around and suddenly the wheel locked up bad, i could not turn to the left. We had to stop for a few and eventually its went back to normal.

We got home asap as i dint want to risk it . I did a Net search on this model van and seen many complaints about the rack and pinion getting damaged and the same results as mine. My question to u is , should i complain to my neighbor?? if so should he help pay for the fixes? give a refund? what do u think?>

none of the above, you bought a used car in a private sale.
you need to pay to get it fixed.
get revenge by other means though.

I've had many experiences with used cars and what not and honestly, here's my opinion.

A dealer did not sell you the car, it was a private sale as Dixon mentioned. Your neighbor is no where near entitled to helping you fix it, in fact, if he/she does help out, you're really lucky because that NEVER happens.

As for a refund it's up to your neighbor and I doubt he'll/she'll go through with it.

It's because of these things that you need to do ALL of your research before getting a car. Believe me, I've been screwed the same way.

The best thing you could do is look at the costs of the repairs and if it touches a thousand just look for a new car.

usually when buying a used vechical its an AS IS sale, so your out of luck. Unless he gave you some sort of warranty cause he is a nice guy but probably unlikely.

You could ask him to help a little, the worst case is he says no.

This might work but I doubt it. Try to guilt trip him if anything lol.

I like your style...:FIREdevil

Thx guys . most likely if he refuses to help ill just suck it up and pay for repairs on my own . Damm this sucks but this is what i get for buying from someone .

I would give him the guilt trip and if that didn't work...resort to other means.

You just have to be real careful man. Do your research and it doesn't hurt to bring some buddies along to help with a second opinion. Buying a used car always sucks but it's worth looking through dozens of vehicles for the right one.

Unfortunately when i say neighbor i mean next door. so any atemps at revenge are screwed. damm i miss the days of being underage and getting a light sentence.
