I get power outtages often and at times i get paranoid about the fishes healthy and safety.

Do you guys do anything special or out of the way to help your fish out?

For example, a battery powered airpump?

Are those even worth it?

That was a good article. I just had a power outage for 8 hours. Just got power back like half ano hour ago. Fish were fine. I left just as the power went out to go visit my parents. I was hoping that they would last and they all made it through.

We run are driven hydro5 sponge filters on all of our tanks. Even those with other filtration systems on them. The main reason for this is power outages. A stock of batteries and a few battery powered air pumps or even a single large one can keep your fish safe indeffinatly. Just make sure that if the power outage is longer than a day that you completely clean out your other filters before restarting them to aviod poisning the water.

When the power goes out, we add enough water to the tank to submerge the bio media in the wet dry filter. If the power is out for more than a couple of hours, we have a very large generator that will keep the fish tanks running and will heat the house and keep the refrigerator running. With the generator, we now have peace of mind that our fish are going to be safe even if the power is out for days.

I got 2 of these , each one can run 2 AC 110's for about 7 hours
fortunately we havent had many outages here , last week we had problems in the apartments with main breaker burnout , so I finally got a chance to test them , there about 90.00 to 100.00 bucks each at depot,
