what do you do with your fry?

I was thinking about beginning to breed a fish, most likely guppies, and was wondering what you guys do with your fry. Meaning how do you keep from overpopulation and inbreeding. Also besides feeding them to bigger fish, what do you do with the fry once they are grown?

I have a few tanks that i seperate out fry from parents then try to sex as soon as possible (usually 3 months) Then I grow them out a bit and put them on craigslist, or aquabid depending on what i have.

Most commonly the biggest item i move is a swordtail, can usually always get 1 each for them. If i get over populated i call the local schools to see if they need them.

cool, sounds like you've got the right idea my friend, I would probably try craigslist first if/when I do it.

i agree people wont pay good money for guppies... in my last thread in here ima breed guppies to feed my oscars

i breed fish for my self ... i love having baby fishes of my own .. some i feed to the Monsters specially the Aro

some i grow out and go to the biggest fish stores in my country and give him the fishes i breed and take any fish i want else ... ( i did so with my last oscar i grow out ( not breed of course ) i gave him the oscar was about 15 cm long and took a new aro from him ..

some i breed for my .. grow out them and put them in the community tanks i did so with my tiger barb and convicts and soon will be african cichlids and cory catfish + ( molly , guppy , sowrdtail as i am still preparing the parents )

so breeding to me is more fun than any ... as i adore and love fish and i can't live without them and my dog too i die without him ... but i can live without my girlfriend ... for a while i think LOOOOL

so as it is a hobby so breeding ll be nth more than fun ... joy ... may be hobby satisfaction

Not true, I know two people who get $35-45 a trio for show guppies they raise. Depends on the quality of fish you have and how good you are at raising them. Ken

Yep, going to see lots of pricey guppies this year at the ALA. Money will stay in pocket tho. Not my kind of fishy

I usually give fry away if things get out of hand. Free gets them out of the house fast.
