What can I feed my 3 inch Rhom? Will he readily take frozen shrimp, mussels etc? At that size, do you guys think I can still train him to take pellets?

Thanks!

i feed my 3" rhom the same thing that i feed all of my other piranhas, hikari bio gold pellets, raw shrimp and catfish, and frozen krill and silversides. at 3", it should be able to eat eat pellets, so you can start working on adding that to the diet now.

i feed mine floating pellets, but sinking pellets are fine too... it is fun to see them fly to the top to rip pellets off the surface tho

Hmmmm . . . that certainly would be a nice sight to see. Problem is, my 3 inch rhom is in a 50 gallon tank with driftwood etc. He might have a hard time finding/ seeing the pellets at the surface.

Does your rhom attack the pellets as soon as it hits the water?

Thanks!

my smallest rhom and my largest rhom both head to the surface as soon as i open their tank lids and attack food right when it goes in the water, the other one takes a minute to realize it's there and then he starts goin nuts.

he shouldn't have a problem fnding them, all of my tanks are full of plants and driftwood and they all find them just fine

yup get him on pellets asap I think it's harder as they get older. I'm feeding mine new life spectrum but for some reason he doesn't like the frozen food blocks from the lfs. But ima try getting him some shrimp. My rhoms diet right now consist of NLS pellets (floating preffered so you can monitor how much he eats and it's eassier to clean up), feeders occasionally, and I'm trying shrimp.

I'm glad to say that my 3 inch rhom is heartily taking in frozen shrimp and pellets. I currently feed Hikari Bio-Gold floating pellets. As soon as the pellets hit the water, he suddenly swims around searching for food. I guess piranhas have a very keen sense of smell. Now, I have to train my 6 inch Xingu to accept pellets too. Wish me luck.

Thanks!

my rhoms pay no attention to floating pellets but they love when i drop a fish filet in the powerhead current ,they attack.
