What do you or have you fed your ebjd's I'm having a hard time getting mine to eat. I had him since Sunday and I know I'm probably just being impatient but I just want to know if it's a thing with their kind that is very shy and does not like to eat. He lets food pass right by him things I've tried include hikari bio gold, hikari carnisticks, hikari massivore, omega one flakes, omega one tubifex worms, frozen bloodworms frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, and red worms minced. He lets it pass by his face he is 1-1.5 inches so I am just curious what do you feed your juvinile ebjd I know he is healthy because he loves to swim a lot and he has vibrant color and he looked chubby the day I got him he has all the signs of a happy healthy fish he just won't eat. Mabye it's just cause he is new I'm probably being impatient :/ I don't know but I just wanted to ask so I have some info as it's my first time keeping jack dempsey let alone an ebjd haha thanks for the help and info in advance

MEAT! I have had 2 JDs and they love the massavore tablets. With him being a baby...break them up for him. Little ones are tough... they are skittish and mine are too shy to let me watch them eat...but if I put it in there- they get around to eating it up. good luck!

I don't have experience with ebjds but from fish experience in general I would say be a bit more patient. You have more than enough proper food options that he should and will eat. Sometimes you have to wait them out.

In general they won't commit suicide via starvation. When he's ready, he'll eat.

Just remember to clear out any uneaten(that's a word right?) food while you keep trying.

My EBJD is eating new life spectrum cichlid formula that I grinded up (for my neon tetras currently with him too) and Hikari frozen bloodworms.

I have one about that size. I had the guy at LFS put in food and made sure he ate there. I notice he favors flake more so than pellet. I have omega one flake that he attacks!! Also likes frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp. I also soak his food in garlic so maybe try that.

Hey that_fish_guy. I myself have raised a few of these little guys from the same size yours is at. At first they are usually skittish about eating until they get used to the hand that feeds them. I made sure my two EBJDs were alone in a tank with no other fish that could spook them. It took about a week before my first EBJD started eating. I would take the round flake foods and break them up put some on the top of the water and walk away. When I was out of sight the JD would go ahead and eat. I repeated this a few times before I switched to something with more mass. Next I tried live blackworms for a week. They went nuts! This was my EBJDs favorite food by far but after receiving a batch of blackworms with anchor worm i stopped with that real fast. I then hard switched the little guys to frozen bloodworms. I would break off tiny bits let them defrost in a cup first, poor the blood in tank so the little guys could know what was coming and then I would aim the chunks for the caves they would sit in when I dropped them. Within a few weeks I had them eating the bloodworms from my hands and I'm sure you will get there too! Just have patients and make sure he's comfortable, I'm sure the little bugger will start eating like a champ soon. Here a few past pics of my EBJDs growing up keep us updated with yours!

Also if you can find red wiggler worms or the smaller earthworms they are great just rinsed off and chopped up. If they are thin as a small string I'm sure your little guy can eat them even this early. This will help put some weight on him real fast even though they are slow growers.
