what do you feed your panaque?

what do you guys feed your panaques? I feed my royal algae wafers, driftwood, squash and cucumbers. Can I add some meaty foods as well? such as frozen prawns? i want him to grow quickly or until his white tail disappears at least.

Yeah, I thought they need wood in their diet or they'll die. your's eats worms and smelt???? i didn't know they could handle that much meaty foods. i'm going to feed mine some prawns.
 
I have heard that they should have very little protein when they are smaller. I have a royal at 4.5" that I feed zuchinni,algae wafers,cucumber,romaine lettuce, and peas are his favorite. He cleans up some of the frozen foods that I put in for the other fish to get some protein. And driftwood of course. They are very slow growers. I have had him for 11 months and he's grown 1 1/8" and from evrything I have read that seems to be good growth for a royal.

Oh man. Now that is really really slow. I was thinking about adding a green phantom or a gold nugget to my tank but we'll have to see if i can find one first.
 
Don't hold your breath w/a gold nugget then.
