I like to feed em mainly Hikari Jumbo Carnistics as the base, freeze dried bloodworms, freeze dried shrimp, live fish and shrimp, live bloodworms, and occasionally a feeder mouse or rat, they even eat my tadpoles that can't survive predators in my grow out tank.

Is is this a good varied diet for Polypterus?

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks MFK.

I feed mine Hikari massivore as the staple and supplement that with live ghost shrimp, cut up Tilapia fillets, cut up shrimp, sun dried red shrimp, frozen bloodworms, I feed frozen beef heart as well. The beef heart is mainly when they're smaller and even then it's just as a treat once in awhile. I've heard beef heart is bad for them if fed to often. Feeding a varied diet is better for they're health overall from what I've been told.

I feed a variety of things to a variety of sizes. For my smaller guys I usually have them rotate on shrimp pellets, carnivore sinking pellets, bloodworms, beefheart, very small pieces of tilapia, and brineshrimp. For my bigger guys I'll feed carnivore sinking pellets, tilapia, massivore, catfish, and silversides. Theres probably a couple things I'm forgetting, but I try my best to feed a variety.

I use the sinking carnivore pellets as a staple, but supplement them with ground venison heart, frozen bloodworm and shrimp. In the springtime I catch tadpoles, from my pond, and dump a few of those in. The polys, ropefish, and african brown knife all go nuts for those. In the offseason if I can get guppy fry from friends, I throw those in too.

Thanks to all for he input! It seems we're all in agreement on varied diets. I haven't fed too much live in awhile because I noticed some becoming more aggressive towards tank mates

thats usually what feeding live does thats why I try and stay away from it sometimes I like to throw some guppys or something in there just to kind of enjoy the craziness, but try for the most part to stay away from live feeders

Yea I have been trying to stay away from feeders with my fish lately. But it does get hectic when you throw some feeders in the mix. It's fun to watch haha

What's NLS+? And I feed em mealworms they love those kinds of bugs. Forgot to add live crickets to my list as well

NLS is New Life Spectrum. Be careful when you feed mealworms. Make sure they are newly shed because I've heard that they have a hard time digesting the shells sometimes resulting in some sort of intestinal blockage.
