ive been thinking about getting a peacock bass but have heard things about there eating habits. Only eating live anyone feed pellets or anything else
Thanks

You will have to pellet train. I've personally never seen a pellet trained bass for sale unless it was already a monster. There is a good sticky for pellet training. This is actually something i am going to begin myself.

Check out the sticky on converting to pellets. My little guys are eating mysis

I have kept dozens and dozens of peacocks of all species over the years and I currently have about 20 of them with the biggest being a 30" 12-13 pound temensis. They will pound pellets and anything else that goes in the tank. I feed them pellets daily and them every other day or so I will mix in any type of fresh or frozen fish that I can get cheap. Once bass get to about 6" they are bullet proof. The key is getting them to that size. When they are small they can be tough sometimes to pellet train and if they are stubborn just feed them whatever they will eat until they get to 6" and they will start to eat pellets.

I hope this is true. I have one a little over 6" and three that are getting close to that size. I hope to pellet train them soon. Now my only issue is a gar that i also have to try to pellet train that shares a tank with the bass

I don't mean to name drop but I have bought most of my young cichla (kelberi) from Sharkaquarium and they were already pellet trained at three inches.I've almost come to expect the small ones to be trained there. Also, some species train a lot easier and quicker than others.

I do my best to get mine converted to pellets ASAP. It's easier to do with the little guys, harder as you get older fish. My first pbass was 7" when I got her, would not switch to pellets, and would spit them out when I tried hiding them in the frozen smelt I was giving her. She died a lot earlier than she should have. All others I've gotten have been closer to the 3, 4 inch range, I would have them switched within a week of getting them.

.....thanks Heather and I have to agree with what was said earlier about large cichla. There aint too much that they won't eat.
