i am a turtle and reptile enthusiast. as many of you know.... i purchased a spiney softshell, alligator snapping turtle, and razorbck musk turtle last summer... all babies of course.:) i bought them from loggerhead acres, John Richards. he seemed very nice, quick email replies, and healthy turtles, except the softshell which died a few days after arrival. i do blame myself for the turtles death, becasue it came to my knowledge afterwards that they were very sensitive to the ater temps. so, overall, in my opinion, i think this guy was a really good breeder. until i saw a review a little while ago, saying that some guy bought a spiney softshell and alli snapper from him, and both were dead. so he called John and got two more, this time, one was injured. he said after that he called and John hung up on him, then the next several weeks after tht, he got prank calls from that number. if you have ever bought from loggerhead acres, please post on this. i am starting to wonder if my plans to buy a baby trrapin from him arent going to work out so good...:irked:

I bought a AST from him and had no issues, but recently a few of my friends and people I know over on Turtleforums at Austin Turtle page have been having issues with him sending ill turtles that die soon and taking no responsibility for it and being an outright jerk to them. Because of that, I will never do business with him again.

This may be a similar experience to what I had with Dan scolaro which is who I purchsed my striped king snake from. I did not know till afterwards that he had a pretty bad reputation although my entire transaction with him went perfectly.
I decided that just because I got lucky that one time his reputation for bad was far greater than his reputation for good so just to be on the safe side should not do business with him again.....
I would imagine that is the same situation here...

Softies, particulary baby ones do fall on the category of the very sensitive. There was probably nothing wrong with it but it simly couldnt cope with the change of envoirement. If you want another you should pick it up yourself and buy a yearling, its a much sounder investiment.

Coura is right. Baby Softshells are quite sensitive.

i understand this, and do take responsibility for her death, however, i ahveheard a few things about john richards that i didnt know, because my transaction went quite well. none of the others were sick or unhealthy. i am not however not sure if i am convinced if he truly is a bad breeder, that is why i started this thread. after all, he is one of the only Alli Snapper Breeders around...

Go check out Turtleforums.co, his reliability has taken a nose dive their recently due to his screwing of posters there.
