hello there, i have a question about titanium heaters. i have a 300 gallon (only fill it with about 150-200 gallons though) stock tank with an alligator snapping turtle. in less then a yr i have had 2 800 watt finnex titanium heaters just stop working. i need to get a new one with in the next few days (plus i am setting up a 120 for a fish and might get one for that too). i have been doing a little research online and i have come up with a few names such as the won brothers, finnex, aqua medic, and viaaqua. ive read that the won brothers pros over heat a lot!! but i havent seen anything about the others. what do you guys use? how long have you used that heater? did i miss any good brand names? what do you guys suggest? thanks for your help.

i use stealth:headbang2, i havent had my 2 stealth heaters for long but i have heard from other members about them being the best heaters cause they almost never break.

I use Won Bros, the only times I had problems were when a couple customers brought them back (who knows what happened), and when we tried to push too low of wattage into too many gallons. Besides that they're cool, I use them at home.

I like the stealth too. No matter what brand you choose it is better to go with multiple smaller wattage heaters, then one with high wattage. This will lesson your chance of over heating or loosing your total heat source at once, as you have already experienced.

im partial to the stealths my self.

and like Bderick sadi go with multiple smaller heaters.

hey thanks guys. i'll look into the stealth heaters. in the mean time i would love to hear what others still have to say.

so the stealth isnt a titanium heater? im just worried about my alligator snapping turtle getting at it and possibly crushing it. for my 120 fish tank the stealths would work great, and thats what i probably will get. but as far as titanium heaters, whats the best?

A titanium heater is a titanium heater. They will rarely go bad. What does go bad, and makes them stop working, is the cheap, crappy controller that comes with them. If you have some lying around that don't work, don't throw them out. It's almost a sure bet you just need a controller for them. With a good controller like a Ranco or Medusa, you can use them for many years.

I like the stealth heaters also. The water temperature is always right around 78 degrees.
