Hey guys, ive been reading around this catfish part of the forum and people are constantly saying you will have to give a large rtc away, but heres some proof not.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280732546...AX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2648#ht_500wt_1361

That was an ebay auction that i was watching a while back and a 2 foot rtc went for £66! with 13 bids, it was far off being given away for free

I also has a fish shop near me which has a 2 foot ish catfish, not sure what it is, for £80, and im sure if i offered them a rts that size they would give me 30-40.

So, why do people say that they never sell?

Because its the exception rather than the rule, why buy a fish.you know in the future you will have to sell because you can't house it correctly?
Get fish that you can raise and keep for its whole life,if you can upgrade to accomodate them fair enough but the few posts of yours I've read don't instill me with confidence, how old.are you by the way ?
Not that it matters if you're a good fishkeeper I'm just curious.

Steve.

I'm 15, i often look like a newbie on here because I learn my weak points on here. I never really show my good side because there are so many people on here that know more than me so i just try to learn more than anything. What are these posts you've seen that don't give you confidence?

well, I don't really want to pay for any RTC when a lot of them are being give away around here! some people without any knowledge about these monster will buy them and then give them away after find out they don't have a tank for these cat!

Firstly lfs are profit oriented, basically they would not sell something for a loss. Also, their traffic flow can be considered very high. Thus they will just price their rtc highly, mainly because they know that it won't sell until someone really wants to buy a huge fish. Then that someone will just have to pay.
As for ebay, I don't think its common to sell fishes there. Just isolated case? Not too sure so I'll leave that open.
Lastly, for forum like MFK, it is made up of hobbyists, people who care for fishes. No matter how we say our mind, the ultimate bond that everyone of us share here is that we care about those fishes. Thus there will be people here saying, don't get a rtc, a gator gar, an arapaima,... But the ultimate idea is that we hope to put people off in those fishes because we worry about those fishes. As to why we always advise people to give away their fishes, is that we hope that previous owners, will find a good home for their gigantic friends, instead of going all out to make a profit.

If the fish is an orphan human child, do you think that we should sell him to a highest bidder or that we should try our best and even going out of our way to find him a good home?
Why are we even in this forum in the first place? It's because we treat our fishes as our friends.

Just speaking my mind.

Thats very true, the orphan thing. & I think that when departing with a large fish like that, the person selling should make sure that the fish is going in a home for the rest of its life and the buyer of the fish should have to proove that they've got big enough facilities to house them. You have raised some interesting points. Thanks
