Just curious how cheap fish are abroad that we pay so much for here in US. For example, if you are from SA how much do you pay for wild discus, CA how much for a festae? I know you can get Texas cichlids for like $2 here in states at 2-3 inches.

you know the question should be how much of a difference is pricing from west coast east coast and mid west... I know that Datnoids are cheaper here in NYC. 7 inch are about $100.00 or so.. Flag tails out here are pretty cheap also.. there was a 9" one for $50.00 in Blue Gold Aquarium.. But I think Cichlids in the West Coast are cheaper..Ive been told... a freaken Uaru out here is $40.00 for a 4".... and CLown Loaches out here are more expensive also.. I see guys in SolCal selling a 7" for a bottle of Stress Coat.. lol JK...

what do you guys think??

Can't speak for West Coast prices on ciclids. Reason I asked question is because I know export fees and import fees dramatically increase prices of fish. Just curious what people of South America or Central America pay for their cichlids.

They dont buy them. They catch them and eat them......:naughty:.

Except for Jbru70, you guys don't get what he is asking. He is asking what people in other countries, with native cichlids, are paying for them.
Boxerfish, most people in other countries are catching their own fish. It's very easy to do unless you're in a major city far from any wildlife. I would imagine that in other countries they'd be paying for non-natives.

However, you're not asking people in the U.S, U.K so I'm also kind of curious to know what is being paid (dollar equivalent) in other countries.

I remember reading an article in TFH, where the author lived in Brazil. He described his experience in a fish store. He said that cardinal and neon tetras were .10c each. Then he bought his pike cichlid for $2 dollars or so. So I guess, when the fish comes here the price fluctuates depending on availability, demand, seasonal, and additional shipping cost to the states. Here is a site listing a lot of wholesalers from a variety of countries. Maybe if you explore it a bit you can find what your looking for. http://www.tropicalfishfind.com/Importers.asp
