I put this in this section for a reason. I don't want it moved to the Hybrid page if that's ok. I want to know what the C&SAC people think.

What do you personally think about Hybridizing Cichlids. I've read things for it and against it on other webpages but I like this website and I want to know what its members think.

* Please don't give anyone a hard time about what they say because I want the truth about what everyone thinks

it destroys certain breeds to the point where you can't even recognize a FH from a trimac, Red devil, synspillum etc.

i think it doesn't do any good to the hobby, although it definitely draws interest. however, i think once people see how beautiful pure bred fish are, they will move on from FHs and other hybrids. at least that is the hope.

it's interesting to some extent to see two different fish hybridizing, but again you don't want to see these hybrids get out into the wider hobby especially if they are fertile.

so my say is it's a no go and it shouldn't be encouraged.

It's here to stay and happens unintentionally at times (Tex and Con breeding). For myself, I keep the fish for the enjoyment of the fish. I could care less if it is a hybrid or pure. I just enjoy them whatever they are. That being said, I am glad there are people who are ensuring that there are pure fish. It is good to have people that you can trust to sell you the real deal if that is what you want. I view it like dogs. Some are against muts and other want purebreds. Not a perfect analogy because technically muts aren't hybrids, but the point remains. As for myself, I just enjoy fish. (Love my FH)

I like all hybrids excpet parrots. Alot of them can look very nice and it can be interesting seeing what can mix.

i am trying to breed some now in hopes of spawning them and hooking up some mfk members.

Depends, some like the blood parrot cannot possably be confused with an actual species of fish. They are unique and everyone "in the know" is aware that they are hybrids. Others though such as flowerhorns and "assorted Africans" make it difficult to find a pure species of fish and these are a real PITA. I would like to know that if I bought a trimac it would be a trimac and not some low grade flowerhorn. I still don't know if my Midas is a Midas or an RD or a combination of both. Some crosses are interesting such as a convict/firemouth but are best done in the home only and aren't sold or traded in any way.

I love my new flowerhorn. But as a whole, I would think the hybrid thing is fine as long as they are sold as such and there is no confusion as to what you are getting. Oh, BTW this excludes Parrots, I think they are horrible looking and moving fish that should not be breed. But to each their own.

I like them but I also like the purebreds, As long as sold as hybrid and only keep in tanks in a home aquarium I like them.
In my opinion it's breeders who pass them off as purebred for a quick buck and idiots who release them to the wild that are the real problem not the fish.

Dislike them, I would not have a problem if they were kept in the personal tanks. I have a problem when they are allowed to be sold or traded into the open market and pollute the pure lines.
