In my local petstore (Petland Discounts) they have had a young adult jag of approximately 6" for a couple of months. This fish was ordered from the warehouse by one of the associates but just didn't sell. No, there is nothing wrong with it, its just that in this neighborhood only fish in demend are the "ghey fihes" like angels and tetras and stuff :screwy: Anywho... They recently got another, slightly larger jaguar from a customer. Both fish were placed in a display 55 with a couple of small oscars, blood parrots, etc. A day later, jags nearly descimated every other fish they were with! I happened to stop by at this time and told store manager who I often hang out with (although he is a certified ******* if you ask me) that these fish look like male and a female, they seem to like each other, and are probably about to breed. He ofcourse did not believe me but since they were destroying his stock, they were moved to the only other tank available -- a 20G breeder! And ofcourse as I predicted they bred couple of days later :D

I wish I could rescue these two fish but unfortunately due to limited tankspace it is out of question. Aside from having slightly shredded fins from being kept in tight quarters they are both healthy and since their fry was removed, they look like they are getting ready to spawn again. If anyone in NYC (Brooklyn) area is looking for a pair of jags, hit me up. I'll help you negotiate a deal where you could get them relatively cheap (I think these fish are now becoming more a neusence to the store).

What I plan on doing though is trying to get their fry. The whole clutch of 100-200 babies were still in the store, kept in a breeder box on Thursday and they were just beginning to become free swimming. I obviously have no intention of keeping any and raising them to adulthood but figured that after putting on some size they would make excellent feeders for my bay snooks. After all, young jaguars must be one of the fish snooks feed on in the wild :grinno:

I already spoke to to the Manager and told him I will come back today. We did not really discus the price. These newborn fish probably have very little value because they don't even resemble fish yet! What would you say is a fair price to pay for the whole batch? Mind you, I plan to use them exclusively as feeders

I tihnk 1" jags would be a fine food. I;ve fed my cichlids the offspring of my bifasciatus when I had them, and they were fine. As a fair price for 100-200 jag babies, Id say a dollar or under. They have their hands full with 2, and who is going to want fry anyway?

Well I got them, and I got them for free. Must be a hundred or more but I am sure that not all will survive. While only a day or two old they seem to be big wnough to take finely crushed flakes. I wonder how fast they will grow to an "eatin size". Oh, and believe me, I would want nothing more than to keep a couple of show specimens. But as I have said before -- I will not have enough tankspace to accomidate them

I only wish I could resque the parents :( BTW, if anyone in NY wants a free juvi jaguars, please feel free to PM me
