I bought these two as a breeding pair of zz red dragons for 50 bucks. The f looks to be a little beaten up, they are both six months old. What do you think of them? Sry the pics aren't the greatest I had to take them with my phone.

+1

tjw, take a look at the FH on this site and other like the craze and you'll see about where your pair rates. 50 bucks is descent if they are your first pair of FH's and want to learn.

Thanks for the opinnions. This is my first time owning a fh. Is it possible that when they breed again they will have some offspring that look better, or will the babies never be better than the parents? I have seen some AWSOME fh on this site that's what made me want one. Imo they are one of the best looking fish in our hobby. Quick Q. Will the male kill the f if I don't keep their tank divided?

its very possible that the male will, i would keep them divided all the time except when there breeding

Not always will the male kill the female. I had a pair that the male was an inch or two larger got along great. After the initial batch of fry I decided to keep them together. When she laid more eggs I simply removed them. No issues for 8 months....

Wow. The reason I asked is, when i first got them they broke through the divider and swam around for a day or so not showing and aggression toward each other, but it seemed like they were stressed out. They were very light in color with almost no red and the male stayed hidden for the most part. After replacing the divider they both swim around more and brightend up a bit. I'm having trouble getting them to eat though. I have a bunch of feeders and they have eaten a few of them and a little beef, but their appettite seems nothing like what I was lead to beleive it was. OH. Another change I made before the male lost his shyness was I put black cloth over the sides and back of the tank.

The seller told me the f will get really dark bars when she's ready to breed. Do i wait for this to put the m in with her or what? Is there anything I can do to make them want to breed for me?
