i was thinking way pay so much for a refuge(sp) when you could simply make it out a plastic critter cage or make it out of glass. would this work?
 
oh yea i fogot i wil be using a filter like plausible mini canster filter. its for FW or BW.
 
for smaller tanks. like on a 20g i don't think a 10g wouldn't be a good refuge(Sp) for this size tank. but what ever you could but i'm talking small scale here.srry for the confusion(sp)

oh sorry i thought you had like a 150
 
lol i wish(all thought i will be making a large tank 150-500g ply wood tank or all glas 150) but thats seems a good size for a 150, but what if you wanted a in tank refgue(sp).
 
I take it we are talking refugium (planted area of sump) here and not a refuge (shelter) for the fish...

First make sure there is enough nutrients to support a refugium and not damage the biological element of you present filter.

What's the tank chemistry now?

Any algae problems?

Ii was just thinking it would be slot cheaper to make one out of a criter cage. It would be in my 20gal for growing baby plants. I wasn't sure if it would work be I thought there might be somthing special about the ones you buy.
 
If that's all you want to do, go for it. Nothing special about commercial ones unless you listen to their advertising :D.
