Here's my plan for a sump and wet/dry. The first tank is just to hold the heaters and an emp 400 so it doesn't run on the tank itself. the secong is the wet/dry. They are both going to be a 10 gallon tanks. Do you guys think the pumps will work togehter without over flowing the sump. I would put ball valves to control how much is let in and out of the tank for the filtration. Also in case of power outage I can just turn the ball valve off to keep the sump from over flowing or just minimize the overflowing. Plus the overflow will stay primed. Now excuse the pipe sizes lol it's a quick sketch. I will probably use 3/4" pvc pipe. This will be for a 125. The reason for the separation is because I can't do a full long tank underneath because of my stands center frame. Plus I want to hide all my equipment in the sump. well here it is. Any advice and suggestions?

you will never get the two pumps to run exactly the same rate, which will lead to disaster. even if they do run the same wear and tear on em will throw them off. people have posted about this alot and the answer is always that it wont work.

All you need to do is take out the pump in the first tank and connect the tanks w/over flow pipes. Like these that siphon water out of my tank that goes to the sump. same principle

Sorry to burst your bubble so bad, but...besides the pump balancing problems and the fact that you would have to be there 24/7/365 in case of power outages and be able to respond within <30sec to turn the valves off or have an overflow condition..... A ten gallon sump for a 125g tank, even with an E400 you won't be able to stock much for the added work involved.

Do you have enough room in the stand to custom build a couple of tanks that would be larger?

How about a pic of the stand & the space available?

I agree. Not a good idea. If you have a Lowe's home improvement store nearby, go there to the area where they have plastic storage containers. They have a black one there that has a yellow lockable lid. This container is made of thick black plastic, and is rated for 400lbs. It holds about 27gals., and is made in Canada somewhere. I used one of these for my recent 125gal. Discus tank, and it works great, much better than a thinner Rubbermaid container would. Cost was around $20 or so.
