I'm curious what everyone uses for lighting.

I'm currently using Marineland double bright LEDs, but I don't think it's the best lighting for certain types of gravel.

I may switch the bichirs over to T5s or LEDs with cooler temperature range

I'm using T5 6400k bulbs on my tanks trying to grow plants in regular white/tan pool filter sand. Trouble is they are quite bright. Great for plants, but my teugelsi is not such a fan and keeps to the shade until they go out at night. Trying to find a happy medium and may change bulb height or add a diffuser.

Here's a few pics on a 75g tank with 2 54w T5HO.

The brightness at substrate would be way higher if not for the overhead Val canopy.

T5 10k lights and also Home Depot t8 4200k. Bichirs seem to enjoy the 4200k temperature more.

I use these

you really can't beat the price but I do plan on upgrading when I get a little more money because of a couple problems
1. you can only turn them on with the remote
2. default power state is off so you can't use a timer
3. remote isn't waterproof
4. no white only mode just
a) red, green and white
b) blue, red, green and white
c) blue

I switched a couple of months ago from T5HO to LED. I use the Finnex planted plus 24/7. You can use different settings like moonlight or cloudy, or you can go fancy and use it in a sunrise/noon/sunset type of mode (the 24/7) but I haven't used that.

You can also create your own color palettes and save them so if you like a yellower tone you can do that, for example.

So far I like it.

I'm not big on lighting, they are rarely even turned on so it's pretty much the basic flourescent strips for my tanks.

I had used a Finnex Stringray fixture on a fish only tank and I liked it quite a bit. It was cheaper than the satellite fixture and I knew I wanted a cheap LED without it just being white lights.

If you notice with the beamswork it reflect the green produce by my iron glass and made my polys green and the garnet weird color.
