you use mechanical filtration like filter floss (i think it's called) in the beginning of your filter to get the hard stuff out

if its what I think it is Ive used it and it worked but i hated having to buy new material once the old got clogged.
I do know how to use mechanical filter media. im just curious how others set there's up. perhaps i should've stuck this in diy

In take to sump > filter sock > Car washing sponge ( these 2 have to be cleaned every 3-5 days) Bio Balls ( under water so they work as mech believe it or not ), Jap matt > 30 and 15 PPI sponge. Thats all my mech 
Then it runs over 20L of matrix 15KG of coral rubble 1.5L of purigen to the pump and over again hehehe. lol Waters spotless cant complain.

oh dam! mind explain how it flows around? which barrel is first =P or are they for different systems?
