What does aging water do?

Does anyone know what are the benefits of aging water? I heard smth like lowers ph or removes chlorine. Is any of this right?

Aging tap water in a container before using it only works completely if your water has no chlorAMine. It does allow chlorine to evaporate and allows artificial hardness (hydrogen) to leave the water making it closer to the water in your tank. Otherwise, dechlorinate as you would anyway.

i remember when i was little we had betta bowls and my mom would change the water by leaving the water sit over night in a bucket then doing 100% water change for the betta. we had a betta for 3 years this way. i dont know if i would personally do that now though.
